About

Born in Puerto Natales, Chile, I left with my family when I was nine, during Chile’s repressive dictatorship. I was young, but the place came with me: the mountains and water, the boats and birds, the immense skies, and the particular beauty of a landscape at the edge of the world, or as my father would say, “south of the imagination.” So did the more difficult memories of leaving a beloved home and beginning again somewhere far away and unknown.

Before turning more fully to art, I spent many years as a community organizer, work rooted in people, place, and belonging. Those same currents eventually found another expression in my art. Both have been ways of making connections, telling stories, and finding meaning in the places and communities that shape my life.

Over the years, I’ve explored many ways of making images, from drawing and stippling to murals and stencils. Most recently, I’ve been captivated by linoleum printmaking. Much of my work lives somewhere between what I see and what I remember. My prints often begin with photographs I have taken, but along the way landscapes shift, elements are layered, and places are reimagined.

I work from my home studio in Evanston, where I create, show, and sell my work locally, while continuing, through art, a conversation with the place I came from.  Patagonia returns again and again, sometimes clearly and sometimes only as an echo.
